Lug-style butterfly valves like the LBL-1000 are widely used for shutoff and basic throttling service in HVAC chilled-water systems, water treatment plants, fire protection (where listed and approved), chemical processing utility services, and general industrial piping installations. The lug body design allows the valve to be mounted between two flanges and — critically — supports dead-end service, meaning downstream piping can be removed without depressurizing the upstream piping. This distinguishes lug-style valves from wafer-style butterfly valves, which require both upstream and downstream piping to remain installed during service.

The EPDM seat liner provides good chemical compatibility with water, dilute acids and alkalis, and most non-petroleum media, while alternative seat materials (Buna-N, Hypalon, Viton, Neoprene, PTFE) extend the chemistry envelope to oils, hydrocarbons, and aggressive process chemistries. Disc materials range from nickel-plated ductile iron for general water service through 316 stainless steel for corrosive media. Compliance with MSS-SP67, API 609 Category A, ANSI B16.1 flange drilling, and API 598 pressure-testing provides drop-in compatibility for most piping systems.
