Bio film
Sanitary tubing forms the foundation of hygienic process piping systems and is specified to ASTM A270 — the standard governing welded and seamless austenitic stainless steel tubing for sanitary service. The A270 S2 supplementary requirement adds additional surface-finish, dimensional, and inspection criteria specifically for pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications, including ASME BPE compliance for bioprocess equipment.
Surface finish grades from SF0 (mill finish) through SF6 (highly polished electropolished) allow specification of the precise interior finish required for the application — SF1 mechanical polish is common for general food and dairy service, while SF4 electropolished finish (Ra below 0.38μm) is widely specified for pharmaceutical, biotech, and high-purity water systems where minimizing surface roughness reduces bacterial harborage, supports CIP/SIP cleaning efficiency, and reduces rouging. Lance Valves' BPE electropolished tubing offers a homogeneous EP layer, higher chrome surface concentration for improved corrosion resistance, guaranteed smoothness throughout the bore, and reduced biofilm formation potential — meeting the stringent requirements of modern bioprocess and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
